Requirements:
*A knowledge of using a computer keyboard.
*A basic knowledge of hotkeys
* having an account on the BARD web page set up.
*A broadband web connection.
*Use of Windows Vista and Jaws 10, but should be similar enough for other versions.

In Summary:
A step by step process, with hotkeys, and keystrokes explained, to find books in the NLS library system. Techniques in browsing for books, then in storing them on a hard drive. Finally how tlo unzip books and move them to a digital reader. In this case a Victor Stream, or the digital book reader provided by the Talking Book Library.

What you will learn:

Finding the BARD web page to sign up for an account. This tutorial does not demonstrate the sign up process. It is included just to show where to go to get signed up.

Browsing the BARD web page. Starts with getting logged in. Follow along as Keith browses for, and downloads some magazines.

Browsing for books by the various methods available. Demonstrates the importance of the Headlines on the page. Also some tips on navigating the page by form fields, and visited links. Talks about the way the book downloads are structured, and using the download screen in Vista.

After books are downloaded, find the downloaded books, and a word on unzipping with Windows Vista. Also how to rename files if needed.

Focussing on the Victor Reader Stream, transferring books from the hard drive by using the Humanware Companion, as opposed to a simple copy and paste method. Both methods work well.

Handy tips for using Windows, and Jaws:
Windows Logo key = Start button.
Windows+e = open Windows Explorer.
F2 = A Windows command to rename a file or folder.
e = in a browser windo, Jaws jumps to edit fields if any exist.
c = in a browser window, Jaws jumps to combo boxes.
alt+down arrow = pulls down the combo box to make a selection. (actually a Windows command.)
h = Jaws jumps to next headline.
#1 thru #6 = Jaws jumps to headline at that level, if any exist at that level.
insert+up arrow, (or 8 on the number pad.) = read current line.
