U.S. Representative Ron Kind recently spoke from the House floor, “I strongly support House Resolution 1644 to designate ‘National Veterans History Project Week’ to mark the 10-year anniversary of the Veterans History Project.

The Veterans History Project is an opportunity to honor the selfless work of our men and women in uniform. By volunteering to record the one-of-a-kind personal recollections of our veterans, we can preserve an important part of American history–what it was like for our veterans to serve our nation during times of conflict and times of peace. Since the creation of the Veterans History Project, volunteers have recorded close to 80,000 veterans’ stories, which are now housed in the permanent collection in the Library of Congress.”

The Mission of the Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress American Folklife Center is to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of America’s war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.
